The World Judo championship: the first day results

10:00 | 27 august 2013

The World Judo championship (senior group) has started yesterday, on August, 26 in Rio de Janeiro. First day, sportsmen appeared in the weight class up to 60 kg, sportswomen – in the weight class up to 48 kg. Our country was represented by Askhat Telmanov (60 kg), Eldos Smetov (60 kg), Aygul Baykuleva (48 kg), Aleksandra Podryadova (48 kg)

Unfortunately, our judokas didn’t manage to continue contests after qualifying rounds. Aygul Baykuleva met with Sara Menez from Brazil in the first grapple. Aygul couldn’t overcome the olympic champion, but she forced her to fight for a victory pretty well. Aleksandra Podryadova won Sumeja Akkus from Turkey in the first grapple, but furthermore she conceded to the Japanese Haruna Asami – the world champion 2010, in the second fight.
Our sportsmen Eldos Smetov and Askhat Telmanov showed excellent fight – they almost reached a semifinal. Kazakhstani judokas met with Orkhan Safarov from Azerbaijan and Boldbaatar Ganbat from Mongolia in repechages for the “bronze” fight. The fights were over to the rivals’ favor.
As a result, Eldos Smetov and Askhat Telmanov took the seventh line of total rating in their weight class. The first group of three included Naokhisa Takato (Japan), Amartuvshin Dashdavaa (Mongolia), and Won Jin Kim (Korea).
You can watch the competitions in the weight class up to 66 kg (men) and 52 kg (women) today, at 7 p.m. (on Astana time) on online channel ippon.tv – our team is represented by Sergey Lim, Azamat Mukanov and Lenariya Mingazova.
