Vladimir Kitchatov: head coach of the men’s national team of Kazakhstan:

- Our boys have just arrived from Brazil where the World Championship was taking place. They are very tired as it is quite hard to keep the weight. However, we have gained an absolute victory today in the weight class up to 60 kg. The time for preparation is well spent, we’ve studied our opponents, training camp gone well and guys believe to the head coach Ermek Abuovich and in our team as well. This is the most important thing.

Eldos Smetov:

Victories do not come easy. You gain them only because you train yourself hard. If you work in slipshod manner you have nothing to do in sport. I completed my goal during this Grand Prix - I became a champion. I would regard as failure any other result, even if it will be the silver medal; it is because I still cannot move away from defeat in World Cup in Brazil. I do not know how it is happen. I could not explain it. In any case, the only person I could blame is myself and no one else. I will try to be the first in the next World Championship. I owe it to myself.

Indeed, I did not have big troubles with the Belarusian guy Shershanov. We had met at the training camp before, two or three times and I won all of them. Of course in the beginning of the fight I have missed his attack but then braced up and didn’t make mistakes. There was only one possible goal for me – get the gold medal. The championship in Brazil? This is a special case (smiles sadly) don’t really want to remember this time. Let us now try to perform at our best at the World Cup in Chelyabinsk in the next year. Fortunately, the level of the judo in our country grows every year. This is very good.

- Ermek Imanbekov, the head coach of the men’s national team of Kazakhstan:

- If you access the first day of the Grand Prix it is clear, that there was exactly what I expected from the guys. We prepared them well and so we know that functionally they were good. I planned that today we will get two gold medals and so it’s happen. I loved the way guys fight in weight class up to 60 kg, took all the podium in the end. All four of them have recently tightened well, climbed in the ranking, plus the entire competition has grown in this weight category. Zhumakamov is a good boy. Recently he became a champion among militaries. In the team ranking in Asia took the third place. Today he took the gold at the Grand Prix. His progress is right here. Why do Ykybaeb and Telman lost? Both were at the World Championships and the whole team they were tired when they got back home. After such a large –scale event athlete must, at first, recover psychologically and physically for at least a one month. But as they came back they’ve one had a ten days, then back to world again. The same story is with Torenov. He also travelled to Brazil so he tired in both psychological and physical ways. If at first, he won all of his fights, including the semifinal battle against the world champion Tsagaan Hashbaatar from Mongolia, then later on at the showdown he was simple exhausted. I totally understand him and in any case I would to put a pressure on him because of that defeat. On the other hand, he is still young but already became a finalist at such an important tournament. Rivals? Even though there were not that many of them, every fight was still very tough. All of them deserved to be at this tournament, Grand Prix always brought some good fighters. After all, it is licensed, everyone needs rating points before the Olympic Games. As for tomorrow I’m looking for the gold medal from Rakov. One gold medal would be enough for us as I think that we will not leave this tournament without silver and bronze medals. Maksim have to win for himself. It will help him psychologically, give him some strength and push him forward. He had a lot of injuries. I have already departed from the world cup in Brazil, the preparation for the Grand Prix helped me a lot. Of course we were expecting to bring more than just one medal. Relied on Smetov. But as a whole, we were quite good. Our next big tournament will be the Championship of Kazakhstan in Ust-Kamenogorsk in November.

The second day of the competition. The Draw.
