Start without medals

Large international tournament “Grand Slam” started in Tokyo (November, 29 – December, 1).

The first day of the forum didn’t become lucky for Kazakhstani judokas. Askhat Telmanov and Eldos Smetov (pictured – dressed in blue) are left without medals in the weight class up to 60 kg. In addition, the latter was close to finish as a prize-winner. In semifinal Smetov, who earlier having defeated Robert Mshvidobadze (Russia) and Toru Shishime (Japan), conceded to the future champion – the Japanese Naokhisa Takato, and already in final grapple for the bronze medal he again run into the representative of the Land of the Rising Sun – Sinzi Kido. As a result he took only the fifth place.

As for Telmanov’s performance, the tournament was finished for him just after beginning. He lost to the Hungarian Tibor Makher already in starting fight.

The silver prize-winner of the world championship-2013 Azamat Mukanov also didn’t reach the list of the strongest ones in the weight class up to 66 kg. After the win over the Russian Abdula Abdulzhalilov there was a double slap in the face from the tatami hosts – Tomofumi Takazho and Masaaki Fukuoki (“repechages”).

The triumphant of Almaty Grand-Prix Eldos Zhumakanov had the same failure. First he reached a success in the grapple against Lloyd Katipon from the Philippines, however in the next grapple he lost to the Frenchman David Larose.
