Smetov is the power!
Courage after triumph in the Asian Games, stunning support of the fans – native judoist Yeldos Smetov (60 kg) becomes the winner of World Grand Prix in Astana (October 10-12, National Cycling Track «Saryarka»).
As on the final of Asian Games, Smetov fought againt the strong mongolian fighter. This time his opponent was the silver medalist of the last year’s World Championship Amartuvshin Dashdava. Opponents came up on tatami and…. tribunes saw amazing and perfect judo in the performance of Yeldos. From the very first seconds he gained advantage and give the made clear that today he will have the victory. No matter how Dashdava tried to change the way of the battle, there was nothing he could do. He had absolutely no chances against Smetov, who has even changed the score from 10:0 to 100:0. At the end of the battle he made a throw on the higher estimation – «ippon». Flawless victory! Screaming that our champion gained the fantastic form! Rejoice, Taraz!

- I won, because I could not defeat today. When such stunning start comes up on your land, when fans are so sincere in their support, how can there be a silver?! Yes, I was tired after Incheon, I took the gold medal there, but even the victory in the Asian Games had not given me any right to defeat. I should have made our national anthem sound in Astana. Opponent? Both of these Mongolian guys were very strong. The first was the reigning world champion, №1 in the world ranking, the second is silver medalist of the last year’s World Championship. I have the greatest respect for them. They are amazing judoists!
Unfortunately, the final fight of Zhansay Smagulov (66 kg) has not ended in favor of Kazakh fighter. Yuki Hashiguchi got the early victory (ippon). Battle lasted less than a minute, Thus, 66 kg’s champion have defeated three host of tatami today: Nauryzbek Mailashev, Azamat Mukanov and the foregoing silver medalist.
