Ermek Imambekov: “Zhumakanov performed strikingly”

Is the coach of men’s judo team pleasant with the results of World Grand-Prix in Almaty (September, 28-29)? What did help Maksim Rakov to win Rafael Buzakarini? Why was the audience disappointed with the final fight of Islam Bozbaev? The head coach of the team answers all these questions.

- What we have planned, then it happened - Ermek Abuovich shares his impressions. - Only one weight – 81 kg did not justify itself on the second day of the Grand Prix. The other guys had achieved what we expected from them. Our final seventeen medals - it's not just the spontaneity, and the result of hard and systematic work of the coaching staff. I am absolutely sure that there will be the same success at the big international competitions in future. The level of judo in the country is growing, we grows very interesting competitive youth. Whereas previously only Maksim Rakov became the champion, now there are the other guys. We are insanely glad about it.

Bozbaev vs Nabiev. Final is a disappointment

Uzbek judoka injured hand and refused to go fighting in final battle. Of course, I was disappointed by this, because I wanted to see how Islam would gain a real victory over him on the tatami, deservedly, not "automatic".

The failure of Shynkeev

Erzhan knew how Vahavyak would fight; therefore the Belarusian won a well-deserved victory in the final. However, I’m glad about the silver medal of Shynkeev and I know his capabilities. If he took the gold, this, in general, would be a super result. And he has taken the second place, which is also worthy.

Long-waited victory of Rakov

One can’t say that Maksim was stronger than his opponent in final. He overplayed the Brazilian Buzakarini, for the first time, by tactics, he didn’t risk, permanently left him behind.

The main hero of Almaty

Eldos Zhumakanov showed himself very strikingly, who not only became the best in weight class up to 66 kg, but was considered as the best judoka of the tournament. Remember how he passed his final fight. Losing, Eldos showed character and exhausted the Belarusian Shershan, so he could not even breathe at the end. In general, this weight category is transforming into a truly brutal. See for yourself: Sergey Lim, Azamat Mukanov, now there is Zhumakanov. It’s incredibly strong competition, which, however, will help each of these guys. And it will help not only them. There is a striking example - the weight category up to 60 kg. Eldos Smetov, Aybek Imashev, Askhat Telmanov and Rustam Ibraev - all four were on the podium on the first day of the Grand Prix.

Grand-Prix in Tashkent (October, 5-6). The main objectives

We will take our fourth-fifths numbers to the capital of Uzbekistan, so the task is appropriate - the running reserve. It is important for them to feel so big competitions, gain experience. National team always needs a lively competition, without it, all the guys will stop progressing.
